When can you get back to your normal exercise routine after you’ve given birth. Well, that really depends on a number of different factors.
Ask yourself these questions:
Is your pelvic floor doing its job well? In other words you are NOT leaking when you cough, laugh, sneeze, run or jump and your DON’T feel any pressure or heaviness down below?
Do you have any aches and pains? This is most likely due to changes in your posture which need to be rectified as part of your postnatal exercise programme as exercising with poor posture only leads to more problems further down the line
Do you have abdominal separation? How do you know? Has anyone checked this for you? How do you know when it has healed properly?
Have you taken the time to work on your core and pelvic floor since your pregnancy and birth. Are you doing your core and pelvic floor exercises correctly, has anyone taught you how to connect to your core and pelvic floor correctly?
And finally, are you ready? Have your waited at least 6 weeks postnatal (12 weeks post section) Most importantly do you feel ready?
There is no pressure to start if you don’t feel ready just yet, we are all different and some will be able to start back within weeks, for others it may take a bit longer. ⠀
