My journey into health and fitness began following a long period of stress, anxiety and depression brought on by a stressful office based job.
Stress took quite a toll on my body, physically I developed irritable bowel syndrome which made me very ill and I became intolerant to many foods I could once eat! And mentally it was a tough battle daily but I forced myself to attend a regular exercise class twice per week when it was quite honestly the last thing I felt like doing. This was my absolute saviour as I would always leave the class on a high and with a clear head!
With the combination of a new-found interest in nutrition and the realisation of the power of exercise on both my physical and mental wellbeing, I decided on a career change!
I completed a Level 3 Personal Training Diploma in 2010 and worked in a health and rehabilitation gym providing exercise programmes to groups and individuals with a range of chronic health conditions. This really changed my view on exercise and how powerful it is in helping people rehabilitate from both physical and mental illness. During my time working here I also completed a number of other health & fitness and qualifications.
Following the birth of my son in 2015 I decided to follow my dreams and start my own business centred around Women’s Health, Fitness and Wellbeing.
Being a mum, I found out first-hand how difficult it is to find any baby free time to exercise. I also experienced the effect that pregnancy and birth had on my body and realised I couldn’t return to the exercise I was doing before. I was also frustrated at the lack of information available for new mums about the various postnatal issues that may affect them.
Since the launch of my business in January 2017 I have also completed an Advanced Post Natal Course and now offer a range of specialist postnatal exercise solutions for women wherever they are in the postnatal period.
My aim is to:
- Provide new mums with safe options for returning to exercise following childbirth. Safe means doing exercises that are not going to weaken our postnatal bodies further but actually allow the body to strengthen and heal.
- Give women the knowledge, power and tools they need to reconnect with their post baby body by improving posture, pelvic floor function and core strength.
- Talk openly about the stuff we don’t normally talk about (prolapse and incontinence for example) and move away from the mindset of saying ‘oh well, it’s just because I had a baby that I feel like this’ You can get help and things can be fixed!
- Empower women to make positive changes and seek professional help and advice when needed.
Alongside the specialist Post Natal classes & courses, I also offer a number of other services based around Women’s Health, Fitness and Wellbeing.
My plans for 2019 are to continue with my studies, the focus being on Peri to Post Menopause, yet another challenging stage of life for Women!
