Outdoor Fitness for Mums

Join me in the fabulous surroundings of Whinlatter Forest for some feel-good fresh air, exercise and fun!

The perfect way to exercise with your baby, these classes will rebuild your fitness and strength in the postnatal period with low impact strength and cardio. There is also the option to step it up a gear once you are feeling fitter and stronger.

Who is it for?

  • New mums and babies
  • Not so new mums with older babies/toddlers. The only request with toddlers is that they stay in the buggy for the duration of the class.
  • New mums or not-so-new mums that would like to attend without their babies!
  • Suitable from as soon as 6 weeks postnatal and 12 weeks post c-section.

What’s involved?

There’s no escaping the fact that there are lots of hills at Whinlatter so rest assured you’ll be getting a good cardio workout. Don’t worry though, there is no pressure on how fast you get to the top of a hill, as long as you get there in the end! You will be surprised how your fitness improves over the weeks!

A typical session may include:

  • Walking interspersed with Power Walking
  • Bodyweight exercises
  • Upper and lower body strengthening using portable equipment
  • Functional mummy movements to keep you fit and strong for your demanding job of being a mum
  • Integrated Pelvic Floor & Core Training.

IF IT RAINS WE STILL TRAIN so make sure you are dressed suitably and bring a cover for your pram.

PLEASE NOTE: that although we train in all weather, there are some exceptions at Whinlatter: strong winds, ice and snow. On these occasions, when the forest closes, the class will take place live online. All you need is access to the internet and zoom which is free to use.

Health Screening

I pride myself on being an expert in Pelvic Floor Dysfunction and Diastasis recti. For this reason, before attending your first session. You will go through an in-depth health screening process. You will be asked to complete an online screening form where I will ask you questions about your birth and recovery and your general health. We will also meet via video call so we can assess if you have a tummy gap (Diastasis Recti). All of this is absolutely essential so that I can ensure the class is suitable for your needs and tailor the exercise programme for you.

I can also offer you advice and help you with pelvic floor and core rehab should this be needed.

Attending outdoor fitness for mums helped me in so many more ways than I expected.  It’s so great to get out of the house, into nature, with a bunch of women in a similar position to myself. The coffee, cake and chat at the end of each session is a bonus!  I couldn’t recommend Jens outdoor fitness for mums enough, it will help your physical, emotional and social wellbeing. It really is the highlight of my week. I can be having a rubbish week and the sessions just pick me right back up.

– Suzanne, Whitehaven –

This programme exceeded my expectation, the personal health screening and 1:1 was so in depth, I was reassured Jen was a woman who knew her stuff and understood the many physical ailments new mums face, whether related to pregnancy, birth or caring for a newborn. I felt I was in safe hands and knew the exercises wouldn’t worsen my pelvic floor! This is the highlight of my week. I love getting out in the fresh air whatever the weather. I love pushing myself and feeling fitter and stronger in a postpartum safe way. If you are thinking of joining, do it! If you’re hesitant, drop Jen a message for a chat. She is so lovely, approachable and knowledgable

– Rebecca, Keswick. –

I joined Outdoor Fitness for Mums because I wanted to get fitter after having my baby, get outside and meet other mums. I was a bit concerned about how unfit I was, being pregnant during lockdown meant I didn’t do much exercise at all! I needn’t have worried.

Overall I’ve really enjoyed getting outside and exercising, the social aspect has been great too.

– Lynn, Cockermouth –

I joined the class to meet new friends, get out of the house, entertainment for my baby and some exercise for me. You don’t have to be super fit or super strong ( but if you are super fit and strong then it is a great class for you too), it’s an hour of good exercise and lots of endorphins! I loved the depth of your knowledge Jen. I felt safe knowing you would not ask me to do anything that would be bad for my postnatal body. It was always fun and always made me stronger. The best baby class I have been to with my 2 babies

– Megan, Keswick –

I joined the class to meet like-minded people, and regain fitness post pregnancy. It’s been great to get to know other mums and make new friends. My fitness has improved significantly in an enjoyable, sociable and stunning setting. Jen is very friendly and approachable

– Katy, Cockermouth –

This is my favourite baby class by a long way! Jen is so knowledgeable and really takes in to account everyone’s different needs and capabilities after childbirth. And the group are so lovely and supportive of one another, couldn’t ask for more!

I feel more confident in getting back in to doing more exercise and slowly getting fitter as a result. I have also made some lovely friends!

– Susie, Penruddock –

It’s been so wonderful meeting new mums, getting to share notes about baby development.  Jen is patient, passionate, motivating, welcoming and shows that she has experience in helping new mums get back into shape.

It has helped me feel better about myself, I have felt really positive and uplifted because of the social aspect of the group. Great venue. Great leader. Great exercise

– Laura, Cockermouth –

This is a great class for returning to exercise after having a baby. The sessions have been very accessible and sociable and Jen has such a wonderful approach and rapport with her clients, in great surroundings too!

– Jenn, Keswick –

‘I wanted to get back in to exercise in a safe way with someone experienced in post-natal care. I wasn’t sure how I would manage as I felt so weak and unfit still recovering from an emergency c section, but the comprehensive pre-screening with Jen reassured me that everything would be accessible and safe. It has boosted both my physical and mental health. I feel physical stronger and as though I am now on the road back to some sort of fitness, but equally as important I really look forward to the classes for the chance to chat to other mums and share tips and tricks, plus the cake of course! Thanks Jen – you have created a wonderful group who are so supportive and friendly, and I have loved it’.

– Sophie, Torpenhow –
